Vege Tech Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein is a superior specialty protein that is amber in color and pleasant in odor, making it ideal for use in skin and hair formulations. It is manufactured with carefully monitored hydrolysis to ensure a complex of polypeptides ranging in molecular weights from a high of 50,000 down to those of amino acids. The object of having such a broad distribution is to provide the damaged hair substrates with a wide range of chain lengths. This optimizes penetration into the hair cortex thus conditioning and repairing from the inside out, while its continuous protective film-forming properties helps fill damaged gaps and lay the cuticle down by linking platelets of protein molecules. These penetrating, bonding and shielding properties support a lustrous, mirror-like shine with conditioning effects. In hair spray applications, the Vege Tech Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein at usage levels greater than 10% is an excellent natural substitute for synthetic fixative hair resins.

It is compatible with anionic, amphoteric and cationic surfactants, does not affect the rheological properties of any emulsions. Litein W is an enzymatically produced hydrolyzed wheat protein that is translucent in color with a very mild, pleasant odor, making it ideal for hair or skin care applications where clarity or native odor profiles are of paramount concern.
Vege Tech Litein W features a rich complex of polypeptides, a high ratio of protein to total solids, as well as high cysteine content. With an average molecular weight of approximately 2000 Daltons down to those of amino acids, Litein W optimizes penetration into the hair cortex, conditioning and repairing the hair from inside out, and lays the cuticle down by linking platelets of protein molecules. This clear, protective and non-flaking film fills damaged gaps and increases tensile strength, while adding high reflectivity and refractivity to dull, abused and weakened hair. Quinoa is an ancient grain that grows high in the Andes Mountains of Peru and Bolivia, as well as the high-altitude regions of Colorado well above the tree line in the purest environments. This “noble grain” was a very important food to the ancient Incas and is highly regarded today as an essential part of a healthy diet.
Vege Tech uses certified organic quinoa grain to produce our Quinoa Protein, thus ensuring the product is free of synthetic fertilizers, growth stimulants, GMOs and pesticides. We extract the protein and a number of other important molecules from quinoa utilizing Vege Tech’s proprietary enzymatic process.
It is commonly known by personal care formulators that proteins of widely differing molecular weights are important for optimum efficacy in hair treatment or conditioning applications. On one hand, very low molecular weight proteins or polypeptides penetrate the hair’s cuticle offering significant repair and function as humectants and moisturizers. This happens because these molecules are hygroscopic, that is they associate with and hold water molecules. The forces responsible for this hygroscopic effect are known as hydrogen bonding. On the other hand, proteins with larger molecular weights (10,000 and above) are excellent film-formers, giving hair the appearance of shine and body. These large molecular weight proteins also effectively repair man-made or environmental trauma to the hair, by reattaching the separated cuticle layers with a protein layer between them. Finally, proteins of intermediate sizes share some of the properties of both small and large protein molecules and can penetrate the surface of the hair shaft and hold moisture in, but also lay on the surface of the hair strand and add shine and combability.

Unlike its opaque counterpart, the Fluid Oat Colloid, Vege Tech’s Liqui-Oats Protein is a transparent aqueous extract version of whole oat, twice refined, purified and concentrated by our proprietary process. It has many of the benefits of whole oats in an easy-to-use liquid form, making it more suitable for hair and skin care formulations that require a clear appearance. The natural ratios of major constituents (arginine, lysine, methionine, valine, oligosaccharides, minerals, phytic and ferulic acids) are maintained.
